Third annual Joomla user conference include Open Source competitors
The organisers of the third Dutch annual conference for users and developers of the Joomla Open Source content management system (CMS) hope to bring about cooperation among several competing CMSs. The conference's main focus is on Joomla, but a fair share of all planned sessions target other CMSs, such as Drupal, Typo3, Plone, Zope and SugarCRM. "Because we are going to build bridges", the organisers say. "Because that is useful to the users."
Details on the conference programme are not yet available. Each conference day will be comprised of three morning key notes and up to 15 different work shops in the afternoon.
A number of the core developers will contribute to the conference. James Vasile, one of the Joomla founders, is expected to present on the GNU Public License and options for using more than one license. A second speaker is Mitch Pirtle, another of the Joomla founders. He will talk about designing and developing high-traffic websites for media companies in Times Square, a presentation by-lined: "Can Joomla be used in freaky high-traffic environments, and if so what are the best practises?"
The first day of the conference is targeted at business users. Most of the presentations will focus on the possibilities of Open Source and will detail successful implementations. The second day is meant for developers of Joomla, PHP and MySQL and other Open Source technologies
The conference is targeted at IT managers, Joomla developers, website developers and hosting service providers. The organisers expect to receive some 500 visitors from the Netherlands, Belgium and a few other countries.
The conference takes place in the heart of Utrecht, within walking distance of the city's central railway station. Ticket price ranges between 29 and 75 euro, depending on time of purchase and number of days visiting.
